Upgrading php 5.1 to 5.2 or 5.3 on Production Server on CentOS Linux

We can upgrade PHP using other methods but its recommended to use upgrade via Atomic repository.

Connecting the repository & installing it on our server

wget -q -O - http://www.atomicorp.com/installers/atomic.sh | sh

Disable PHP 5.3 that is installed into the repository by default

exclude = php*5.3*

into [atomic] in the /etc/yum.repos.d/atomic.repo file

Update PHP

yum update php

Update the mcrypt package as well

yum update php-mcrypt

Once completed successfully, check PHP and its version:

php -v
php -m

Restart Apache

/etc/init.d/httpd restart
